The Place Sober Living for Men sober living environment located in Oceanside and San Clemente, California.

Clean, bright, structured living environment for those looking to take the next step in their recovery.

We welcome you to our community to live with other sober men. Everyone here is an adult, therefore if we know what is expected we can agree to live up to those expectations. Every person is treated with the highest regard and lives in a clean and happy harmonious environment.

We believe that if we are all willing to follow these expectations, we can live together as a strong supportive community.

Recovery Philosophy of Sober Living Homes

Central to recovery in SLHs is involvement in 12-step mutual help groups (Polcin & Henderson, 2008). Residents are usually required or strongly encouraged to attend meetings and actively work a 12-step recovery program (e.g., obtain a sponsor, practice the 12 steps, and volunteer for service positions that support meetings). However, we will allow other types of activities that can substitute for 12 step groups, provided they constitute a strategy for maintaining ongoing abstinence.

Developing a social network that supports ongoing sobriety is also an important component of our recovery model used primarily in all SLHs. Residents are encouraged to provide mutual support and encouragement for recovery with fellow peers in the house. Those who have been in the house the longest and who have more time in recovery are especially encouraged to provide support to new residents. This type of “giving back” is consistent with the principle of recovery in 12-step groups. Residents are also encouraged to avoid friends and family who might encourage them to use alcohol and drugs, particularly individuals with whom they have used substances in the past (Polcin, Korcha, Bond, Galloway & Lapp, in press).
